Why is it so hard to believe that things may not be as they seem? Behind the frozen smiles and empty eyes lie the decaying dreams of a better world. Where once was a promise of fairness and quiet noble ideals, is replaced with fear that grasps with rabid desperation for fictional pasts, tribal gods and all-to-real prejudices. And freedom, sweet freedom, its desire demands a watchful eye as treason blooms from the root of our forefathers. Fear and security are the new mandate. With fear comes control. From control comes power. This is what we have to offer our bearers of new light. Is this the legacy we want to leave after our lives have disappeared into dust; A bold, free future, or a shattered promise of yesterdays forgotten dreams?

Why is it so hard to believe that things may not be as they seem?

Full Color Version: The Occult Saga of Walli Elmlark - The
"Rock and Roll" Witch of New York.

WICCA – THE OCCULT – UFOS – CELEBRITY GOSSIP, AND
ROCK ‘N’ ROLL!

A TALE OF NEW YORK’S BEDAZZLING WHITE WITCH.

PLUS SOME MAGICKAL SPELLS FOR LOVE, MONEY AND SUCCESS.

This is the compelling story of the Wiccan lady Walli Elmlark who saved the life of David Bowie through witchcraft, and put a spell on pop stars and other high profile celebrities during the most dynamic period in rock music – the 1970s.

Through the pages of this book the reader will go back in time to relive this celebrated period, mingling with those who were shaping the counterculture and causing a reconstruction of our social and political belief systems, both through the music and entertainment of this period, and the practice of witchcraft and the occult which was growing in popularity among the youth. Much of the activities described took place backstage at the Academy of Music and as part of the inner circle of the N.Y. School of Occult Arts and Sciences hosted by the psychic world’s “Grand Poobah” Tim Beckley.

SHOCKING REVELATIONS

** The British rocker David Bowie had come to the U.S. on his first tour taking on the persona of Ziggy Stardust, an androgynous spaceman from Mars. Bowie was coming under repeated psychic attack. An evil spirit had settled in the swimming pool of his LA residence; black magicians were trying to collect his semen so that they could create a demon baby. Was the Anti-christ looming in his future? All this while becoming more dependent on cocaine which was causing “the man who fell to Earth” to become increasingly paranoid.

Indeed, it seemed like a curse had been placed on rock and roll as any number of its young performers were dying, or becoming deeply depressed regardless of whether drugs were involved or not.

** Glam rocker Marc Bolan of the band T-Rex, for example died prematurely in a car accident. Walli had proclaimed “the wizard with a top hat” to be the reincarnation of the 5th century sorcerer Merlin of King Arthur’s court.

** There is also empirical evidence that Jimi Hendrix had a “special mission.” It was said that he was from Mars (either physically or reincarnated from the Red Planet) and that he had been reborn here to lift the consciousness of the planet through his music and occult philosophy. UFOs followed him wherever he went. In fact, a stranger from space even saved his life one wintery evening.

Guaranteed to be a trip down the odd side of memory land!

Professor Says UFO Occupants Could Be Time Travelers
By Tobias Wayland

Montana Tech professor of anthropology Dr. Michael P. Masters recently released a book in which he posits that UFO occupants could be “our own distant descendants.”

Identified Flying Objects: A Multidisciplinary Scientific Approach to the UFO Phenomenon, published March 2nd, 2019, "cautiously examines the premise that extraterrestrials may instead be our distant human descendants, using the anthropological tool of time travel to visit and study us in their own hominin evolutionary past."

Masters, who completed his PhD at the Ohio State University in 2009, has taught biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, archaeology, economic anthropology and globalization, sociology, and cultural diversity. In his new book, he uses anthropological science to explain the human-like attributes of reported ufonauts.

“The phenomenon may be our own distant descendants coming back through time to study us in their own evolutionary past,” Masters told KXLF. “The extra-tempestrial are ubiquitously reported as being bipedal, [and] upright-walking, [with] five fingers on each hand and foot, [and] bi-lateral symmetry that they have two eyes, a mouth, a nose, [and] they can communicate with us in our own languages.”

Masters is willing to stand behind his work as an academic, and hopes to help erode some of the stigma surrounding UFOs.

“I stand by the product. I’m happy to talk about it with anyone. It’s written for my academic peers as much as it is for anyone in the UFO community," he said. “The hope is we can begin a new dialogue, get past some of the stigma and not have to defend this as science because it is very scientific as well."

UFO Bases Exist All Around Us
By Sean Casteel

In his tireless quest to discover and reveal the truth underlying the UFO phenomenon, Timothy Green Beckley has turned over yet another stone. This time, Beckley has assembled his usual suspects (which, in the interest of full disclosure, includes myself) and put together a book on hidden alien bases from which the UFO occupants may be operating.

The book is called “Alien Strongholds on Earth: Secret UFO Bases Exist All Around Us,” and Beckley’s introduction sets up his concept quite skillfully.

“They are said to walk among us,” Beckley writes. “And, if this is true, surely they have to be living nearby, even if in seclusion.”

Beckley explains that he has been collecting information on underground and undersea alien bases for decades, trashing some reports and reserving judgment on some others that seem more likely to be plausible. “Alien Strongholds on Earth” is an attempt to present the more believable stories that have come to Beckley’s attention.

One theme Beckley strenuously drives home is the possibly localized nature of these hidden bases.

“There is evidence that human-looking ETs,” he writes, “may be living right down the road from you, hidden in some secluded base of operations. They have been seen to emerge from a landed craft and then observed in the checkout line of the local supermarket the next day. Should they be ‘found out’ and followed into the parking lot a few feet away, they are seen to vanish right before the eyes of stunned witnesses.”

MOUNTAIN BASES AND THEIR WICKED SECRETS

Beckley has divided the book into seven sections, with each section covering a different aspect of hidden alien bases as researched by his team of authors. In one section, cleverly quoting the 1960s folk song “Go Tell It On The Mountains,” as made popular by the trio Peter, Paul and Mary, cases involving mountain bases are examined.

Beckley himself, by way of example, contributes a chapter to this section on the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, a region which he feels has a sinister power all is own.
According to Beckley: “One place you should really stay as far away from as possible is Arizona’s Superstition Mountains. True, there are all sorts of stories which maintain that vast tunnels containing millions of dollars in hidden treasure, left by the Spanish and protected by the Indians, are available for the ‘lucky’ treasure hunter, but so far there have been so many strange deaths – murders, actually – and disappearances in the Superstition Mountain range that you’re better off alive and poor, rather than dead and potentially rich. Here is a rather hair-raising rundown of some of the weird events which have taken place in the Superstitions over the course of many years. Some of the base activity is above ground – other activity goes on below the surface. How deep? We really can’t say for certain.

“There is a dark element, indeed, about this area. Mind-controlling aspects of the paranormal are evident. We know from past research that the Ultra-terrestrials are capable of a mental hold on us if they are so determined.

“A few years back,” Beckley continues, “I was on the History Channel’s ‘UFO Hunters’ show, hosted by Bill Birnes. One of the researchers I traveled with was reptilian ‘mastermind’ John Rhodes, who has been chasing after serpent-like inner earth beings who have massive headquarters underground throughout the Southwest. He told me that the Superstition Mountains in particular concerned him because of all the negative UFO related events in the area.

“I requested a description of the type of beings we should be on the lookout for and Rhodes provided me with this list of qualifying features:

http://www.reptoids.com/

Beaded or scored skin like a lizard or serpent. The scales (scutes) are larger on broad areas such as the back and chest. The hands, face and other malleable areas of the body have small scales that allow finer flexing.

A slightly large, slightly back sloping cranium (sometimes appearing conical) with two bony ridges that begin near the brow region of the forehead and extend backwards.

Two slit or almond shaped eyes with either vertical or circular pupils (Vertical indicates adaptation to low light environments, circular to near surface or lighted environments.)

Two ears (small holes) one on each side of their heads that may or may not be covered by thin scales.

A flat and wide nose with a very little bridge area in between.

Lipless mouths with varying dentition.

Very muscular and trim torso with strong arms and legs.

Four to 6 digits of each hand covered by fine scales.

Tails that have been seen to be as long as four feet to as small as 18 inches. Some do not have tails at all, only a small bump at the base of the spine. Independent verification of reptilian activity in the vicinity has come our way via Marcus Lowth, writing for Listverse.com

“The valleys around the Superstition Mountains in Arizona are popular with hikers,” Lowth writes. “They are also popular, if you believe the reports, with reptilian humanoid creatures that like to abduct people and take them into their base deep within the mountains. One particular account, that of a woman known in the report only as ‘Angie,’ is particularly bizarre and harrowing. While enjoying a walk around the valleys, something she did regularly, Angie was suddenly confronted by a person in a strange mask trying to scare her. It was only when she realized the mask was actually a real face, and the person was some kind of strange reptile-like creature, that the fright turned to absolute terror, and she blacked out.

“The next thing she realized, she was sitting behind the wheel of her car, driving it toward her home, with no memory as to what happened. She would spend the next several days locked away in her apartment, scared and confused.

“It was only when she sought help through hypnotic regression that the encounter come back to her. She had come to in a strange cavern inside the mountain. She was surrounded by several of the reptilian creatures. She was on a table in the middle of the room, naked and tied down. As one of the beastly beings approached her, she blacked out again. Although the regression did not reveal it, Angie believed she was raped by the creature before being brought back to her car.”

AN UNDERGROUND BASE WITH THE POWER TO CONTROL MINDS?

Those who have dared brave the shadows of the Superstition Mountains say that there is something that puts evil in the minds of people who go into the mountains in search of the Lost Dutchman Mines.

Probably the richest treasure yet to be found by man is located somewhere within the bowels of the Earth in these mysterious mountains. In searching for this treasure, many people have been killed; many others have died of mysterious causes; while still others have met death at the hands of fellow prospectors who crave one of the Earth’s greatest treasures – GOLD!

Indeed just what is it that makes men go stark raving mad upon the mountains that make up the great Superstition Range? Is it the bloodthirsty lust for this precious metal or something far more sinister and perhaps supernatural?

Benjamin M. Ferrira of Honolulu, Hawaii, told staff reporter Jack Karie of the Arizona Republic, while serving a sentence in jail for the killing of his gold-seeking partner on April 19, 1959 that:

“There is something that happens to the minds of people going into that mountain to look for gold. People just get started hating each other – first thing you know they’re at each other’s throats.

“It didn’t make sense! There’s something there on that mountain that makes men foolish. I know from experience – from a very sad experience – that mountain does things to the minds of men. At least I think I went completely nuts – one time I thought those canyon walls were moving in on me.”

Some months later, in November, Laven Rowlee of Phoenix was shot to death by Ralph Thomas after a life and death struggle that took place just southeast of the famous Weaver’s Needle, named for its discoverer Pauline Weaver. Mrs. Thomas asserted, according to a special report in the Arizona Republic, that Rowlee first approached the couple “jabbering something about us trying to kill him – he said my husband was an FBI agent. I really didn’t understand what he was talking about. It sounded like a lot of gibberish.”

After Rowlee attacked the couple, they somehow managed to grab his gun and overpower him. As the two proceeded to march Rowlee to a nearby prospector’s camp, he screamed, “I’ve got another one.” Thinking Rowlee meant a gun, Thomas fired and knocked Rowlee down with a shot from his own hand weapon.

Rowlee died a few hours later.

“The stories coming out of this area,” Beckley writes, “from those who have seen the vast mountain range and know its innermost secrets, often reveal strange circumstances which refuse to be put to rest. Many of them could well be the product of overworked imaginations caused by the hot desert sun and the fearful winds that howl through the mountain passes like the sound of those from another world beckoning to those that dare set foot on its sacred ground.”

THEY LIVE AMONG US, FOR GOOD OR EVIL

The “Friendship case” was a decades-long series of alien encounters in and around Pescara, Italy, from 1956 through the 1970s.

The frightening brushes with something wicked in the Superstition Mountains can be contrasted with a famous case from the 1950s, often called “The Friendship” case, that began in Italy and remains unsolved to the present day.

The case features human-looking aliens and is touted as the incredible story of mass contact between humans and aliens. Normally, people thought the contactees were a small group. But in 1956, there was a contact case involving hundreds of people. Several of them came forward and told their story to the late Italian researcher and author Stefano Breccia.

The eyewitnesses told Breccia that the beings spoke perfect Italian. The beings explained that the Earth had been created for a positive purpose and that man was turning everything into evil. The level of human morality is considerably lower than that of the aliens, who had come to ensure that the situation with mortal man didn’t get completely out of control. The beings had not come to conquer but instead emphasized that all things required love and respect and that everything should be done in accordance with those principles. The ETs were familiar with Earth’s history and its differing religions.

They had already been on Earth for many years, they told Breccia, living at secret bases in various places on the planet. They preferred not to reveal themselves publicly because people weren’t ready for open contact. Breccia himself met many of the aliens, some of them very tall, including one alien who has 15 feet tall and was photographed towering over some trees in the background. The aliens were given the name “W-56s,” because the year they revealed themselves to their communal followers was 1956. They sometimes communicated telepathically and at other times through crystal radio sets. The W-56s are a confederation of different people coming from throughout the known universe. Earth holds a mystical appeal to them since it is one of a tiny number of planets on which conscious life exists.

Having established a base in Pascara, Italy, the W-56s asked for help from the humans, requesting industrial quantities of fruit and vegetables of all kinds. After taking delivery of a truckload of vegetables, the truck driver was lured away by human beings to have coffee, at which point the aliens teleported the goods off the truck. The driver was surprised to return and find the truck was already empty.

There were believed to be similar human/alien communal bases in Germany, Chile and Russia in the 1950s. Jealousy and competition soon erupted, and the beings admonished the humans to “stay united.”

The W-56s also revealed the existence of an enormous undersea base in the depths of the Adriatic, almost in contact with the continental shelf. Many smaller bases are located closer to the surface. Meanwhile, topside, according to Breccia, “Our friends are living inside small bases or plainly within our environment. As far as I know, all of them are humanlike, with only minor differences, height among them.”

There are bases near Pascara on the Adriatic Coast, which are difficult for Breccia to describe because of technology we don’t understand. But there are no fixed entries into them. When necessary, a passageway is opened, then closed, and everything goes back to the “status quo.” One large base had a ceiling 300 meters high, and sometimes it rained inside the base.

“A lot of our Friends are living among us,” Breccia said, “interacting at ease with our society, having Earth identities.”

ALIEN BASES HIDDEN IN THE SEAS

Researcher Preston Dennett has written more than 20 books and over 100 articles on UFOs and paranormal phenomena. One of those books, “Undersea UFO Base: An In-Depth Investigation,” reveals a great deal of information on a suspected undersea base off the coast of Malibu in Los Angeles County in Southern California. Dennett spoke to us about his research and why he continues to believe there is a definite undersea “presence” in the area.

“There are many reasons why I think there might be a base off the coast of Southern California,” Dennett said. “The area is very deep, in places up to a mile deep, so there is plenty of room for a base. The number one reason why I think there might be an undersea base is the huge number of USO [Unidentified Submersible Objects] accounts in a sharply defined area over a long period of time. I have documented over 70 UFO cases and 70 USO accounts from the 1920s to the present day. In these cases, objects are seen diving into the water or coming out of the water, sometimes both.

“There are several instances,” he continued, “in which boats are targeted by USOs that travel directly beneath them, sometimes causing the electronics on the boats to fail. The objects have been seen to move underwater at high speeds. The witnesses include police officers, the Coast Guard, Navy officers, lifeguards, fishermen, residents, tourists and more. The USO activity is well-known among the locals. The question is, why? Could there be a base?”

SHIPS ARISING FROM THE OCEAN DEPTHS

Dennett says that another argument for an undersea base has to do with “mass sightings” in the region. Some of the UFO/USO cases involve “UFO fleets” with dozens of UFOs, and, in a few cases, hundreds of objects. In these cases, he explained, the UFOs were seen coming from below, not above.

“Where are all these UFOs coming from? If there’s not an undersea base,” Dennett quipped, “there’s a parking lot down there.”

And still a third reason Dennett believes in the reality of an undersea base is the large amount of “whistleblower” accounts he has unearthed over the years. People who claim to have worked in intelligence or within the Top Secret area have spoken about a tunnel which leads from Area 51 in Nevada to Edwards Air Force Base in California and on out to sea in the Santa Catalina/San Pedro Channel area.

“Other whistleblowers say that there is an undersea Navy base in this area,” he added, “and one claims that it is occupied by both grays and humans.”

THE MYSTERY OF THE “MALIBU ANOMALY”

Perhaps the most compelling reason for this belief is something called “The Malibu Anomaly,” an artificial-looking undersea structure located off the coast of Malibu. The anomaly was first given public attention by researcher Robert Stanley in 2010. Dennett first heard about the structure in January 2013, from a private researcher who went by the pseudonym “Maxwell” and informed him of the anomaly’s location. The following year, Maxwell used Google applications to obtain photos of the anomaly and published the photos, which quickly went viral on the Internet.

“The so-called Malibu Anomaly,” Dennett said, “has three main features that make it look artificial: It has a smooth flat top. It has what appears to be a row of giant columns or pillars. And it also has what appears to be a tunnel leading undersea or underground.”

Dennett provided further details.

“The Malibu Anomaly,” he went on, “is located about six miles off the coast of Malibu beneath about 2000 feet of water. The object itself is huge, with a roof about 1.35 to 2.45 miles wide. The roof is an estimated 500 feet thick, supported by massive pillars about 600-700 feet tall. The tunnel entrance is about 2,700 feet wide. By coincidence or not, the Malibu Anomaly is located directly in the center of the greatest level of USO activity.”

Skeptics admit the object is inarguably there, but contend that the structure is something natural, not an artificial work made by intelligent design. Meanwhile, Dennett received a second-hand report from an elder of the Native American Chumash tribe, who have lived in this area for many thousands of years.

“The elder said they know about the ‘structure’ and that it was there long before the Chumash,” Dennett said. “They have no idea who built it. However big the base is, it has to be big enough to hold at least 200 UFOs at one time.”

BUT THERE IS MUCH MORE TO THE UFO BASES STORY

Alien Strongholds on Earth” also includes stories of alien bases “hidden in plain sight” in Virginia, near Washington, D.C., as well as in the vast desert areas of the U.S. The deserts are given thorough coverage by Beckley and his stalwarts Regan Lee, Diane Tessman and Scott Corrales.

One section, coauthored by Beckley and his longtime artist/collaborator, Carol Ann Rodriguez, recounts an adventure the two friends shared in the jungles of Mexico, where they visited pyramids said to conceal ET bases and from which issued the strange voices of alien spirits. Another friend of Beckley’s, the late Donald Worley, writes about small communities throughout the world that have become “infested” by an alien presence that has established hidden bases at out-of-the-way rural locations.

But the book offers even more, like the notion that the Greek gods and their home on Mount Olympus might be an ancient rendering of an alien mountain base, as Hercules Invictus, a writer steeped in the subject of Greek mythology, makes a case for here.

Briton Nigel Watson writes about the Nazis and their search for the underground base of the Aryan “gods,” whose assistance they sought in their scheme to conquer the world, a base perhaps located in Antarctica. Meanwhile, the well-known Tim R. Swartz reveals the history of military mind control experiments during which helpless victims – who may also be alien abductees – are taken to hidden bases where humans and aliens work side-by-side on their dark agenda. And Beckley teams up with crystal skull expert Joshua Shapiro for a chapter on the alien presence hidden high in the Andes Mountains, as well as such Peruvian landmarks as the famous and familiar Nazca lines, which are an obvious remnant of the UFO occupants from ancient times that may have served as an aboveground base.

When one reads “Alien Strongholds on Earth” and studies the accumulated research and evidence collected by Beckley’s people, one may feel obliged to concede Beckley’s overriding concept: that alien bases exist all around us, in our deserts, mountains and oceans, as well as possibly in our own neighborhoods.

Regardless if the Ultra-terrestrials come from the far reaches of space or are the product of some much closer parallel universe, they seem to make themselves comfortable whenever and wherever possible, just as nicely situated here on Earth, in most cases, as they would be back at “home.”

Hearing Bigfoot a Life-Changing Event
By Charles H. Featherstone

Rick Graser has no doubts about what he heard that Friday afternoon fishing in the Quinault Indian Reservation in Washington State.

“Reuben (Estavillo), our Indian guide, wanted to drop the anchor and fish the spot a little longer, take a breath and talk,” said Graser, a retired fishing guide, former professional baseball player and long time Moses Lake resident.

It was March 1, around 3 p.m.

“It was a beautiful day,” Graser added.

And then Graser, along with Estavillo, fishing lure designer James Beasley and magazine editor Nick Amato heard it — a very loud “powwww-whoop!” that echoed through the gorge.

Not just once. Or twice. But three times.

“I heard it first, couldn’t make out the noise over the motor, and just as (Reuben) turned off the motor, it ended,” Graser said.

So, they sat quietly in their boat, listening to the wind, waiting to hear that sound again.

A little more than two minutes later, they heard it again. That loud “powwww-whoop!”

“I said, ‘That’s a Bigfoot,’” Graser said. “No doubt for me what I heard. As sure as I’m alive, speaking to you right now, I know what I heard.”

And then, about five minutes later, from much farther away, came the sound again, much fainter this time, as if someone — or something — was answering.

“Oh wow, this is some serious stuff,” Graser said.

“We heard it twice,” said Beasley, owner of Port Angeles-based Wicked Lures and the reason the four were out in the Quinault wilderness to begin with. “It was so loud it almost hit you in the chest coming through the tree line.”

“It was very strange, very clear, very loud in a very remote place,” said Amato, editor of Salmon Trout Steelheader magazine and himself not a believer in Bigfoot. “I’ve never heard anything like it.

“We were just sitting in the boat, chitchatting, and we all heard it,” said Estavillo, who has lived, hiked and hunted on the Quinault Reservation for most of his life. “It didn’t sound like an owl, or cougar, it wasn’t an elk or a coyote. It was more like vocal chords.”

“I don’t know what made the noise,” Estavillo continued. “There are a lot of Bigfoot sightings here. People hear them, people see them.”

Like Estavillo himself, who said he came upon a Sasquatch walking across a logging road a few years ago.

“At first I thought it was an evergreen tree broken in the middle of the road,” he said.

“Then it walked to my right, and I could see it as it walked into the woods.”

Although Graser has never seen a Bigfoot, he is a believer, and has been interested in Sasquatch since he first read about the creature in a 1969 issue of Reader’s Digest. He has met the legendary Bob Gimlin, who along with Roger Patterson shot in northern California the famous 1967 short film of a tall, hairy creature many believe to be Bigfoot, and even has a plaster cast of a Sasquatch footprint that had proudly displays in his den along with a sporting goods store worth of rods and reels.

While no one recorded the sound that day, Graser and Beasley — a former professional musician who claims to have perfect pitch — recreated the sound, and then had it compared with other alleged Bigfoot “whoops.” And it’s nearly identical to other recordings, Graser said.

“When I heard it, I was in awe of what I heard, and immediately knew what I heard,” Graser said. “Two emotions just crashed in on me, and I felt kind of light-headed for a second. I can’t believe I heard that.”

“It was a life-changing event,” Graser added.”The power of the voice, for as far away as it was. If you hear it, you will know what it is. There’s no doubt.”

Graser hopes what happened to him will help in the continued search for Bigfoot.

“I want it to be known that they are out there,” he said. “So we can find out what they are. For science.”

“I want to prove it,” Graser added.

New Paper Suggests Fungi Photographed on Mars
By AstroWil

An international team of research scientists, in a just published monograph titled “Evidence of Life on Mars? – consisting of a scholarly review of nearly 200 peer reviewed scientific studies – answer this age old question with a resounding “yes.” And they’ve included pictures of Martian specimens, photographed by NASA, which they say support their claims.

The claims have been published in Journal of Astrobiology and Space Science Reviews.

The study states some images captured by NASA's Curiosity show fungi is growing on the surface of the supposedly barren planet. The research lists 15 images as evidence of algae, lichens and 'Martian mushrooms'.

The claims have yet to be confirmed or refuted by NASA.

According to co-author and research team member Dr. Regina Dass (Department of Microbiology, School of Life Sciences, India) “There are no geological or other abiogenic forces on Earth which can produce sedimentary structures, by the hundreds, which have mushroom shapes, stems, stalks, and shed what looks like spores on the surrounding surface. In fact, fifteen specimens were photographed by NASA growing out of the ground in just three days!”

But were these specimens really “growing?” Maybe these are rocks uncovered by wind?

“Certainly that’s possible” admits co-author, Dr. Nicolo Cantasano, a geobiologist at Italy’s National Research Council, headquartered in Rome. “However, wind would not account for what appears to be masses of black fungi growing on the rovers, and what appears to be white fungi, or bio-corrosion within a sheltered compartment atop the rover Curiosity.”

Team member, Dr. Vincenzo Rizzo, a biogeologist working under the auspices of the National Research Council, also points to the seasonal fluctuations in Martian methane as additional evidence of life. “As we detail in our article, 90% of terrestrial methane is biological in origin and seasonal fluctuations in atmospheric methane are directly correlated with plant growth and death cycles. The cyclic fluctuations in Martian methane is reflective of active biology which is also depicted in before and after pictures of specimens photographed by NASA.”

But many believe the sphere-like specimens photographed emerging from beneath the Martian soil, are not mushrooms but hematite, what NASA affectionately refers to as “blueberries.”

“We are not disagreeing with NASA. NASA has some of the greatest scientists and engineers in the world. However, hematite is also a product of biological activity,” argues Dr. Rizzo. “Just as stromatolites are fashioned together via the action of cyanobacteria, fungi and bacteria also help to cement terrestrial hematite together. We should expect that the same biological processes helped fashion hematite on Mars.”

“Hematite also does not take the shape of lichens,” adds Dr. Dass. “These Martian specimens have mushroom-shapes, stalks and stems and are the same height and have the same growth patterns as terrestrial lichens.”

A controversial piece of research such as this is subjected to extensive vetting by peers within the scientific community. Editors of the journal say six independent scientists and eight senior editors were recruited to scrutinise the study.

Eleven experts in total recommended publication (following revision) and of the eight Editors three rejected the article. One editor was vehement in his opposition and angrily argued the article should be rejected and that the minority view should prevail.

Why the opposition to publishing evidence?

Many scientists reject the evidence for religious reasons, believing evidence of Martian life is contrary to the Bible. Dr. Velvl Greene who supervised over 100 biologists at NASA admitted, in his article, “The Rebbe and the Scientist: Looking for Life on Mars,” that he was warned by religious zealots that searching for life on Mars was “contrary to Torah,” and NASA “shouldn’t be doing this kind of work.”

According to Dr. Gil Levin, when he was discussing the Mars Viking LR experiments in a NASA meeting attended by Dr. Phil Abelson editor of the journal Science: “Abelson became angry and began shouting: ”The Bible tells us there cannot be any life on other planets.'”

According to Dr. Bianciardi, who, along with Drs Levin, Straat and Miller, analyzed the 1976 Mars Viking Labeled Release results, “Biological activity on Mars was first detected in 1976. NASA dismissed that evidence then inexplicably refused to equip any subsequent mission with life detection technology. As we detail in our review, there is now considerable evidence supporting Viking’s original findings of life on Mars.”

“We admit” says Dr. Dass, “we don’t have a smoking gun. No photos of cells or cellular structure. There is no definitive proof, only a lot of evidence which shouts: Biology.”

“The only way to know for sure,” adds Dr. Bianciardi, “is to retrieve these specimens and return them to Earth. This should be a NASA priority.”

But how could these organisms survive on Mars? What about water? Radiation?

“Numerous species, including fungi, thrive in radiation intense environments” explains Dr. Dass. “As to water, we should recognize that Mars is an alien world, and any life on Mars may have evolved unique alien characteristics which enable them to survive.”

The research team who published “Evidence of Life on Mars?” do not claim to have discovered any new “truths” and explicitly deny they have proved there is life on Mars. As stated in their conclusions:

“Similarities in morphology are not proof. In many respects the observations presented here could be described as circumstantial and do not rise to the level of “extraordinary evidence” thus precluding “extraordinary claims.” Although, collectively, the evidence, in total, weighs in favor of biology, we can only conclude that the question of life on Mars remains unanswered.”

Giant Spider of the Congo
by Terrence Aym

Spiders might exist that have crawled out of nightmares. They're called the "J'ba FoFi" (giant spider, pronounced ch-bah foo fee) in Central Africa.

Many people might define a giant spider as one that's bigger than their hand. Some may think bigger and envision the horrifying Goliath 'bird eating spider' that dwells in the darker corners of the ancient Amazon rain forest. That eight-legged terror spans a whopping 14-inches.

Unfortunately, those people aren't thinking big enough.

The size of the Congolese Giant spider-when its legs are included-is said to be up to five feet across.

According to cryptozoologists (researchers that investigate unknown creatures that have not been recognized by orthodox science), most of the J'ba FoFi dwell in the Congo. Natives tell stories of the giant web-nests the spiders build, similar to a trap-door spider.

Most of the many anecdotal tales describe the spiders digging a shallow tunnel under tree roots and camouflaging it with a large bed of leaves.  Then they create an almost invisible web between their burrow and a nearby tree, booby-trapping the whole thing with a network of trip lines. Some hapless creature—soon to end up on the menu—will trip the line alerting the spider. The victim will be chased into the web. This predatory entrapment is similar to some species of tarantula.

Presumably, the J'ba FoFi eggs are a pale yellow-white and shaped like peanuts. Native claim the hatchlings are bright yellow with a purple abdomen. Their coloration becomes darker and brown as they mature.

Some of the natives indigenous to the regions in the Congo where the J'ba FoFi has been seen assert that the spider was once quite common, but has become very rare.

Other than the testimonies of natives, there is one clear story of the really large ground-dwelling spider collected by naturalist and cryptozoologist, William J. Gibbons, who writes:

"I first became aware of a giant ground-dwelling spider through Miss Margaret Lloyd, formerly of Rhodesia and now living in England. Her parents, Reginald and Margurite Lloyd were exploring the interior of the old Belgian Congo in 1938 when they spotted something crossing the jungle track ahead of them. At first they took the object to be a large jungle cat or a monkey on all fours. When they stopped their vehicle (an old Ford truck) to allow the animal to pass, they were thunderstruck to see that it was a very large brown spider, similar in its appearance to a tarantula, with a leg span of at least four or five feet. Mr. Lloyd trembled so much with excitement that he was unable to retrieve his camera in time to take a snap, and Mrs. Lloyd was so distraught that she wanted to return home (Rhodesia) immediately. This creature is known as the J’ba Fofi; J’ba meaning “great” or “giant” Fofi meaning “spider” (spiders of all kinds are called Fofi)."

Gibbons, has spent many years in Africa hunting for what some think may be a living African dinosaur called Mokele-mbembe. On his third expedition in search of the creature he came upon natives who related their experiences with giant spiders. He shared his experience with  readers upon his return to Canada:

"On this third expedition to Equatorial Africa, I took the opportunity to inquire if the pygmies knew of such a creature [giant spider], and indeed they did! They speak of the Jba Fofi, which is a "giant" or "great spider." They described a spider that is generally brown in color with a purple abdomen. They grow to quite an enormous size with a leg span of at least five feet. The giant arachnids weave together a lair made of leaves similar in shape to a traditional pygmy hut, and spin a circular web (said to be very strong) between two trees with a strand stretched across a game trail."

This is exactly the same description that other researchers have heard. Although the spider seems to have been spotted mostly in the Congo, there are reports of the same—or similar—spiders inhabiting Uganda and the Central African Republic.

"These giant ground-dwelling spiders prey on the diminutive forest antelope, birds, and other small game, and are said to be extremely dangerous, not to mention highly venomous," Gibbons states. "The spiders are said to lay white, peanut-sized eggs in a cluster, and the pygmies give them a wide birth when encountered, but have killed them in the past. The giant spiders were once very common but are now a rare sight."

Many of the natives describe the spiders as once being numerous, but now a vanishing species. Encroachment by civilization in the form of rain forest being converted to farming may have driven the spiders from their natural habitats.

[Although their numbers are dwindling] they are still encountered from time to time. The Baka chief, Timbo, casually mentioned to us that a giant spider had taken up residence in the forest just behind his village in November 2000, when I and Dave Woetzel from New Hampshire had visited him! He did not think that we would have been interested in the creature as our interest was focused on Mokele-mbembe at the time! Valuable evidence had eluded us."

Cryptozoologists—like any other researchers—sometimes only get the information they specifically ask for!

If these giants do indeed exist, their physiology is puzzling. As some entomologists have rightly pointed out, spiders of that size would have to overcome the limitations of their exoskeletons. In addition to that hurdle, many of the more primitive arachnids have a primitive book-lung respiratory system. Modern spiders, however, often have a trachea and book-lungs. That combination allows for a smaller heart, more efficient blood flow and greater speed and stamina. If the Congolese giant spiders exist, they would most likely have both trachea and book-lungs.

"On questioning our group of six Baka guides," Gibbons narrative continues, "they have all seen these spiders at one time or another and state that they are quite capable of killing a human being. According to the Baka (and the Bantu hunters who have encountered them) the giant spiders were once surprisingly common and would often construct their lairs very close to human villages. They have become quite rare now thanks mainly to the deforestation of Central Africa, but my guess would be that they are still to be found in numbers in the vast and still untouched forests of the former [Belgian Congo or Zaire] where the Lloyds encountered one in 1938."

Gibbons knew the Lloyd's personally and adds that Mr. Lloyd tried to get a photo of the spider while Mrs. Lloyd was so stricken with fear all she wanted to do was return to their home in Rhodesia.

Other stories of giant spiders abound. Some of the stories are little more than spotty tales told in the villages of unnamed missionaries whose porters were killed by giant spiders.

An English missionary named Arthur Simes related an incident that occurred in Uganda during the 1890s. While trekking near the shore of Lake Nyasa, his porters became entangled in a monstrous web. Several giant spiders swiftly descended upon them, injecting the men with poisonous venom. Later, all the men's extremities swelled, they grew feverish, delirious and then died.

Simes claimed he drove the giant spiders off with his pistol.

Are there other historical or contemporary Giant Spider sightings other than Africa? Loren Coleman's website, Cryptomundo, has an interesting story from
correspondent Todd Partain whose father, Richard Partain, had an odd experience in 1948.

"One cool night in 1948, in Leesville, Louisiana, 48-year-old William Slaydon walked his wife, Pearl, and his three grandsons to church. Among them was the youngest, Richard Partain, a child of six at the time. They walked north along Highway 171, and as the road began to dip, Grandpa Slaydon suddenly stopped his grandchildren with a gesture and had them step back quietly and freeze.

"The grandchildren, aged six to thirteen, knew instinctively to obey this gesture without question. There was a rustling from the ditch, and an unbelievable creature emerged from the darkness.

"Richard Partain said that it was a huge spider, the size of a washtub. It was hairy and black. As they watched, the giant arachnid crossed the asphalt from East to West, and disappeared into the brush on the opposite side of the highway.

“We asked Grandpa what it was, and he said simply that it was a very large spider. Afterwards, all nighttime walks by the family to the church were cancelled. The incident was never discussed again with the grandchildren.

“Through my whole life, whenever I watched a TV program or read an article about spiders, I would wait for someone to identify it, but no one ever has,” said Richard. “I always had the impression that Grandpa was familiar with them, that had seen one before, or at least knew about them."

Whether the Congo spider is real, or a myth remains to be seen. And hopefully, whomever the researcher is hunting for it will see the spider before it sees him.

Couple Spooked By Ghostly Image on Nannycam
By Char Adams

A Michigan couple is looking for a new home after they say they captured nanny cam footage of a ghost in their 1-year-old daughter’s room and mysterious scratches on the her face.

Joshua Higgins, 30, and Heather Brough, 25, said they believe their Highland, Michigan, home is haunted after they saw footage of what they believed to be a ghostly figure wandering around their daughter, Lily Higgins’ crib. In the video, Lily suddenly stands up and looks around as the figure appears to walk across one side of the room.

“It was chilling,” Higgins told WXYZ. “It was literally a chill down your spine. Like that ‘what if’ factor — Is this what I just saw?’ “

The couple decided to check the footage after they found unexplained scratches on Lily’s face. Brough said she had just woke Lily from a nap when she spotted the deep “purple scratches” on the baby’s cheek.

“Seeing Lily’s face with the scratches was so bizarre and frightening,” Brough said. “I was crying, ‘What happened to you?’ I grabbed her jacket and ran over to my mother-in-law’s house. Nobody knew what happened. We wondered if she’d scratched herself, but when we put her hands up to the scratches it did not match up.”

This is not the first strange occurrence at the home, though. Brough said she has heard an “angry male voice” screaming and laughing. She recalled at least once hearing footsteps up and down the stairs as she took a shower.

“It scares us that it could do something else,” Brough told WXYZ. “I mean, there was a morning I woke up and I felt like someone’s hands were around my neck.”

Brough and Higgins live in a guest house owned by Higgins’ mother, Kris. Kris, who lives in the main house nearby, said an investigator has determined there is paranormal activity in her home — but she said she doesn’t know what could have caused the incidents in the guest home.

“I was told when we bought the houses 11 years ago the lady who owned the property died in the main house. It’s an old farmhouse and according to her niece … she fell down the stairs, broke her hips and laid there for a very long time before she passed away,” Kris said.

“She said that the guesthouse was built for the lady’s brother who was schizophrenic.”

However, Higgins’ father, Jim Higgins, told WXYZ that a man who lived at the home originally died after jumping out of a window. Although t is unclear who may be haunting the home, the couple said one thing is certain: they’re moving out.

“This has made us want to leave as soon as possible. As soon as possible we’re out of here,” Brough said. “This is a spirit. I don’t know what its intentions are, but at this point it’s becoming physically harmful.”
